Torikoe Shrine

Torikoe Shrine started as Shiratori Shrine in 651 by Yamato Takeru who is a hero in Japan's myth. In a civil war in 11th century, Yoriyoshi & Yoshiie Minamoto saw white birds flying across the river to find the place where they can walk across the river.

After then, this shrine has been called Torikoe Shrine.
Tori means bird and Koe means go across.

A portable shrine used in the ceremony is one of the largest and heaviest one.
