Tokyo National Museum

This museum is a MUST if you are interested in Japanese art and culture history.
It's located at the north end of Ueno Park.

Main hall is Japanese Gallery which has many national treasures and important cultural properties.

Exhibitions on the 1st floor is by category like paintings, sculptures, china, swords, etc.
Exhibitions on the 2nd floor is by time from ancient Jomon period through Edo era.

There are many buildings here.
Don't miss Gallery of Horyuji Treasures and Toyokan.

Gallery of Horyuji Treasures has a dark and quiet space with many little statues of Buddha.
This place may be good for meditation.

Toyo means Eastern world.
Toyokan has many foreign Buddha statues from different countries.
You can trace the journey of Buddhism from India to Japan.
Faces of statues look different by country.

9:30-17:00 (-20:00 on Fridays in Apr. through Dec.)  Closed on Mondays
